Poor mental health has risen dramatically over the last few years in the UK - a trend which is sadly set to continue. The impact of poor mental health effects our ability to contribute in a healthy way to our family, friends, workplace and most of all to ourselves.
Our work is rooted in blending the eastern art of Yogic philosophy and practices with western modern psychology to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, self-beliefs and ways of coping with your mind.
Yoga is the union of mind and body and when we learn to manage our thoughts and subsequent emotional reactions, whilst also responding to our inner world with compassion, kindness and love, we truly do MAKE OUR MIND OUR BEST FRIEND.
It is our intention to share how applying the wisdom of yoga to the modern way of life we can master the art of thinking and being.
To promote yoga as more than an exercise! By sharing the traditional aspects and benefits of this ancient art, we hope to guide you towards improved mental wellbeing by making your mind your best friend.
Yoga teaches us pain is the root of all suffering: suffering starts with our relationship with our mind.
We apply the wisdom of eastern philosophy & western psychology to educate clients on mental health and how to free ourselves from past pain and present suffering by understanding and managing the workings of the mind.
To create a global community where individuals can master the art of thinking & being by applying the wisdom of yoga to the modern way of life. Our intention is to guide you on your journey to making your mind your best friend.
Pranayama, or breathing techniques, is a powerful practice that can significantly enhance mental well-being, promote mental clarity and calm the mind and body.
Breath is the master of all emotions. Once we are able to control the breath and its response to situations such as fear, anxiety, nervousness and anger we are able to control emotions and the responses associated with such.
Asana is a sanskrit word that translates as seat. In yoga postures or asanas are used to prepare the body to sit in stillness and a traditional practice will begin with breathwork, followed by asanas and then savasana or stillness.
Postures are used to work on various parts of the body and holding the postures helps to guide our mind from racing thoughts and become present in the moment
In the Yogic system, meditation is practiced by focusing the mind on one idea. The breath, a mantra, a positive feeling like love - something uplifting.
When we continually focus on one thing repeatedly, the mind goes from a scattered state to a concentrated state.
And that is the key to a strong mind and to strong mental health. It doesn’t need to be more complicated than that.
Having discovered the life-changing magic of the yogic way of life in 2012, I am deeply passionate about sharing the power of yoga as a tool to promote better mental health for all.
I am trained in Ashtanga, Hatha, Restorative (RYT500) and children's yoga. For the past 20 years, I have chosen a career of service and have been working with people impacted by substance abuse in the criminal justice system.
Through my work with thousands of individuals, I have unfortunately been only too aware of the re-occurring theme of poor mental health and mindsets often lacking the tools to embody self-confidence and happiness. Having experienced first-hand the benefits of yoga, I could see the value and benefits of incorporating my personal practice with my professional work.
My aim is to provide a platform to encourage a healthy, happy and calm mind which is equipped with tools to deal with life’s challenges and rewards, both ‘on and off the mat’.
We invite you to join us in our project to bring the magic of yoga into the minds and lives of all beings.
I was drawn to yoga in my early 20’s through a teacher that traditionally taught Hatha yoga. She was always so calm and at that age I was experiencing bouts of anxiety that were at times quite debilitating. I wanted to find a way to manage my ‘fight or flight syndrome’ and discovered that regular practice really helped.
Over the years I practiced many forms including Hatha, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Restorative and Vinyasa Flow. I fell in love with Vinyasa Flow as I loved the variety and creativity of the classes and in 2014 I graduated as a teacher. I then went on to qualify in children’s, restorative and pregnancy. Since 2019 I have worked in male prisons as a trainer and careers adviser. My role is that of rehabilitation and helping my clients to find a pathway away from crime.
In prison there are high levels of mental health and through the use of yoga and breathwork we can deliver the tools to help improve these levels. Empowering prisoners through the use of yoga and pranayama helps them to maintain mental and physical health in incarceration and to build confidence and self esteem in the lead up to their release. With first-hand knowledge of how yoga has benefitted me I am passionate about sharing this toolbox for life!
